Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo and Prem Koonjoo unhappy?November 17, 2017
Is there a split at the top of the MSM leadership? Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo and Prem Koonjoo are rumoured as two ministers who are not in favour of the nomination of ex-minister for Gender Equality Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, as vice-Prime Minister.
The cabinet reshuffle came after the almost sacking of ex-Minister of Land and Housing Shaukatally Soodhun, who also lost his post as the no 4 in the government of Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.
Some in the MSM wanted Vishnu to be nominated at the number 4, and it appears that even the Minister Mentor Sir Aneerood Jugnauth had a penchant for Vishnu.
But the PM Pravind decided it should be otherwise since he wanted to keep a fringe of the Muslim community to remain in his favour by nominating Jeewa-Daureeawoo as the 4th in the government’s lineup, a powerful position within the MSM-ML-OPR regime indeed.
Roubina Jadoo-Jaunbocus is also nominated as Minister of Gender Equality. .
SAJ was not seen at the ceremony anointing Jadoo-Jaunbocus as Minister.
Nevertheless, there seems to be rumblings within the government with some Ministers threatening their imminent departure from the government, but as reported before, they might not leave since there is a lot more happening within the corridors of power in Port Louis.
WFTV reported in the past that 4 ministers were thinking of dumping the regime of Jugnauth to join the opposition. This did not materialise yet due to the intense canvassing that went on within the corridors of power.
It is said the elected members of the No 9 constituency (not No 8) is also unhappy since one of the elected members who was promised a ministerial seat did not get satisfaction.
Our source said the said candidate, elected in 2014, did not have sufficient backing to ‘win’ the ministerial seat in question.
