Rolling stock and signalling systems for Mauritius light rail ordered

CAF, which designs, manufactures, maintains and supplies equipment and components for railway systems worldwide confirmed on December 26 that it has received a turnkey contract worth more than €100m to supply rolling stock and signalling systems for Mauritius Metro Express.

The light rail us a 26km light rail line linking the island’s capital Port Louis with the town of Curepipe.

Under the contract awarded by the project’s design-build contractor Laurson & Toubro, India, CAF will provide 18 seven-section Urbos low-floor LRVs, together with signalling, an automatic vehicle location system, transit system signal priority system, depot equipment, and a driving simulator.

The initial 13km section of the route from Port Louis to Rose Hill is scheduled to open in 2019, with the remainder of the line to Curepipe due for commissioning in 2021.
