Open rift within PKR on Mahathir’s nomination and fight against Azmin on

An open war is ongoing within Anwar Ibrahim’s PKR after the announcement that former PM Mahathir Mohamad will be the next PM in the event the Pakatan Harapan wins the next General Elections.

The battle pits several groupings within the party, and they oppose Azmin Ali for his tough stance on Pakatan’s nomination of Mahathir as PM candidate.

The Malaysia-Chronicle, the site banned in Malaysia by the MCMC, wrote in caps in the headline of one of its article attacking the Menteri Besar of Selangor.

“WITH EVIL FORCES IN PKR’S AZMIN CAMP BEATEN BACK, THE PATH TO VICTORY FOR HARAPAN IS CLEARER: BUT DR M MUST ENSURE HE IS NOT SABOTAGED FROM WITHIN IN HIS OWN CHOICE OF SEATS TO CONTEST.” it said.

Here is a snap shot of the article:

SHAH ALAM – Pakatan Harapan unanimously decided Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be the coalition’s candidate for the Prime Minister’s post if the pact makes it to Putrajaya.

Wan Azizah is the candidate for the deputy prime minister’s post.

Pakatan also agreed to limit the tenure of the prime minister to two terms.

agreed to allocating

  • 52 seats to Pribumi
  • 51 seats to PKR
  • 35 seats to DAP and
  • 27 seats to Amanah.

In another article, the blog said:

AZMIN CAMP AT IT AGAIN? AS USUAL, USING ANWAR AS THEIR EXCUSE, PKR MEMBERS CAUSE HAVOC AT HARAPAN CONVENTION.

It picked up a story from ANN which said some PKR members were unhappy over speculation that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would be named the prime minister candidate for the Opposition if Pakatan Harapan were to win the 14th general election.

The group, dubbing itself “Reformis 98”, caused a stir at the hallway of Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) during the Pakatan convention Sunday.

Holding a cut-out of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, they demanded entry into the hall as delegates, but were stopped by security.

This caused a temporary congestion at the entrance as the group and convention organiser engaged in a verbal exchange.

Earlier Sunday, the group held a banner declaring Anwar and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as its choice for prime minister and deputy prime minister candidates.

A minor scuffle then ensued when an unidentified Amanah delegate approached the group, telling them not to make any provocation.

But Wan Azizah denied that the PKR wanted both husband and wife as PM and DPM.

The site said to belong to YB Tian Chua, has constantly risen its concerns against Azmin. It is now calling for Azmin to be removed as Selangor Menteri Besar, calling him ‘Najib Junior”.

In yet another screaming headline, Malaysia-Chronicle wrote:

IF HE HAS ANY HONOR, ‘NAJIB JUNIOR’ AZMIN SHOULD QUIT AS SELANGOR MB: HIS TREACHERY REVEALED IN FAILED BID TO STEAL PM & DPM POST FROM DR M & AZIZAH, NO REASON TO LET PKR’S NO.1 POLITICAL BACKSTABBER HOG THE S’GOR TOP POST.
