Ugly Visit Malaysia 2020 logo gets bashing
February 3, 2018 0 By WFTVThe Visit Malaysia logo, seen as ugly and said to be a mockery of Malaysia and her rich history, has been added to the anti-Najib Razak rhetoric in Malaysia’s political debate.
It appears that anything the government do will not go down well with netizens in Malaysia, and a large number of them has signed up to stop Tourism Malaysia from using the design.
There is actually a petition against the logo on change.org which received 11,659 signatures with a goal of 15,000 signatures.
Mustaffa Azizi Idris started this petition to Tourism Ministry Nazri, Minister of Tourism and to all Malaysians.
The petition stated, “Tourism Malaysia announced a new logo to promote Visit Malaysia 2020. The design is appalling. It looks cheap and does not represent the country, the people and its history. The public was not consulted.
“This petition is to STOP Tourism Malaysia from using the design. It makes a mockery of Malaysia and her rich history. It is alienating the rakyat (which means citizens). It has to go,” it concluded.
Visit Malaysia 2020 logo has lifted “Travel, Enjoy, Respect” tagline from World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)’s September 2017 campaign.
And the according to the tourism minister, the multicoloured logo is here to stay, the BBC said.
Nazri Aziz said the logo was designed by the ministry’s in-house team and that he trusted their designs, adding that criticism “is normal”.
The logo has created an uproar among netizens, causing them to bring out their frustrations to social media while others started to design their own Visit Malaysia logos versions while ridiculing the official version.
With netizens talking about it on twitter, they did say quite a few interesting things to say regarding the logo.
‘Logo Visit Malaysia 2020 is like work done by a lazy designer. Seriously. It is not attractive at all! Yikes! ? Who will come to Malaysia with this display? ???’
Another Twitter user said when you look at the logo you remember that of Wawasan 2020.
Wawasan 2020 means Vision 2020 which was launched by Mahathir Mohamad some 18 years ago.
One Twitter user twitted: ‘Visit Malaysia 2020 logo, more like visit Malaysia 1998 style, Its like they don’t have Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, so ugly.’
‘Dont criticise the designer. His boss want likes this, he delivers, what can he do?’ said others.
‘Just soo weird how come a logo like is accepted, it looks like it was designed by a primary school student.’
As stated above, it seems that many are against the new logo. Even the BBC said some Malaysians were not amused.
