Bloomberg reports that top Chinese scientists on Monday said the world will have to live with COVID-19 for a long time.
They say the virus is different from the SARS that struck the globe 17 years ago.
The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS disappeared months after the control measures were in place.
But COVID-19 is likely to attack each year and infect more people without them knowing it.
The reason is the virus can stay in hosts undetected and they may fall sick without any prior symptoms.
With this group of virus carriers showing no symptoms and falling sick without detection, it is worrying health officials.
Because this makes it difficult to fully contain transmission.
“This may be an epidemic that co-exists with humans for a long time,” says Bloomberg, quoting a Chinese scientist.
The experts say it can become seasonal and sustains within human hosts.
In Malaysia, health DG Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says we have to “live with it.”
Health officials warn people of long social distancing measures.
Religious authorities are proposing social distancing for the incoming “Raya celebrations”.
