SMBC Malaysia appoints Mohammed Nizar Faisal as deputy CEO

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) — Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Berhad (SMBCMY) announced today the appointment of Mr Mohammed Nizar Faisal, 49 as its new Deputy Chief Executive Officer, effective 6 July 2020. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

He replaces Mr Anthony Lim Choon Eng who has retired on 26 July 2020.

“The appointment of Mr Mohammed Nizar Faisal will be an asset for SMBCMY as we grow our presence in Malaysia. He will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to drive the growth of our Corporate Banking and Transaction Banking businesses,” says President and CEO of SMBCMY, Mr Tetsuya Kainaka.

He added, “SMBCMY is committed to long-term economic potentials in Malaysia. We will leverage cutting edge technical expertise and on the financial position of the SMBC Group to provide conventional and Islamic banking products that are innovative and will meet the needs of our customers.”

On Mr Anthony Lim’s retirement, Mr Kainaka says, “On behalf of the Board of Directors and employees of SMBCMY, I would like to thank Mr Anthony Lim for his years of dedicated service. He has been instrumental in the strategic direction of our corporate banking business in Malaysia and has contributed to the growth of SMBC in the last 5 years, especially in the areas of Governance and Compliance.”

Mr Nizar has more than 24 years of experience in the financial services industry, with the last three and half years in a Senior Management role in a local bank.

He has a proven track record in the areas of Business Strategy and Business Development, delivering profitability and asset quality, as well as contributing to the bottom line of the organizations he has served.

Mr Nizar has led project steering committees for various Transformation Programs, business re-engineering, supply chain solutions, credit recovery, credit solutions and digital solutions.

Mr Nizar holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Marketing from Middlesex University, United Kingdom.
