14 new Covid-19 clusters | Free Malaysia Today – Free Malaysia Today

Six clusters are linked to education institutions, four community clusters, three workplace clusters and one involves a religious gathering.

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected 14 new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said six of them were linked to education institutions, four were community clusters, three were workplace clusters and the remaining one involved a religious gathering.

Three clusters each were detected in Kelantan, Sarawak and Johor, two clusters were found in Kedah, while Selangor, Sabah and Perak each detected one cluster.

Clusters that recorded the most cases today were the Sungai Duan (62), Kampung Domis (55) and Jalan Sulah 16 (42) clusters.

The new clusters are:

Kelantan

  • Tangok – an educational institution cluster involving Bachok, Kota Bharu and Machang. The index case tested positive on April 15 through a screening of symptomatic persons. The cluster involves staff at an educational institution in Kampung Tangok, Bachok. 39 people were screened, 15 tested positive.
  • Pulai Chondong – an educational institution cluster involving Machang, Bachok and Pasir Mas. The index case tested positive on April 16 through a screening of symptomatic persons. The cluster involves staff and students at an educational institution in Pulai Chondong, Machang. 199 people were screened, 23 tested positive.
  • Jalan Hospital – an educational institution cluster in Pasir Mas. The index case tested positive on April 13 through a screening of symptomatic persons. The cluster involves staff and students of a school along Jalan Hospital, Kampung Kubang Terap. 525 people were screened, 50 tested positive.

Sabah

  • Jalan Tagasan – an educational institution cluster in Semporna. The index case tested positive on April 9 through a screening of symptomatic persons. The cluster involves staff and students of an educational institution in Jalan Tagasan P/S 521, Kampung Tagasan Tani. 109 people were screened, six tested positive.

Johor

  • Jalan Medan Aliff – an educational institution cluster in Johor Bahru. The index case tested positive on April 15 through a screening of symptomatic persons. The cluster involves an educational institution in Jalan Medan Aliff Harmoni 1/2, Taman Damansara Aliff. 67 people were screened, nine tested positive.
  • Jalan Cahaya Baru – a workplace cluster involving Batu Pahat in Johor and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur. The index case tested positive on April 14 through a screening of symptomatic persons. The cluster involves workers and customers at a restaurant in Jalan Cahaya Baru, Yong Peng, Batu Pahat. 90 people were screened, 20 tested positive.
  • Cyber Park – a workplace cluster in Kulai. The index case tested positive on April 19 through a screening of symptomatic persons. The cluster involves workers at a factory in Jalan Cyber 14, Kawasan Perindustrian Senai 4, Kulai. 21 people were screened, nine tested positive.

Kedah

  • Jalan Weng – an educational institution cluster in Baling. Positive cases were reported on April 19 after a targeted screening on students in Jalan Weng, Bongor. 121 people were screened, 11 tested positive.
  • Bayan Cenderawasih – a cluster involving a religious gathering in Kota Setar. The index case tested positive on April 16 through a pre-operation screening. The name of the cluster refers to Jalan Bayan and Jalan Cenderawasih, where the virus is reported to have spread. 38 people were screened, 10 tested positive.

Sarawak

  • Sungai Duan – a community cluster in Mukah. Positive cases were reported on April 2 after a targeted screening on the community in Sungai Duan. 321 people were screened, 84 tested positive.
  • Sungai Passin – a community cluster involving Matu and Sibu. Positive cases were reported on April 2 after a targeted screening on the community in Sungai Passin, Matu. 441 people were screened, 49 tested positive.
  • Sungai Selitut – a community cluster involving Bintulu and Tatau. The index case tested positive on April 11 through a screening of symptomatic persons. The name of the cluster refers to Sungai Selitut, Tatau, where the virus is reported to have spread. 65 people were screened, 18 tested positive.

Perak

  • Jalan Bandar Universiti – a community cluster involving Perak Tengah and Manjung, as well as Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur. The index case tested positive on April 13 through a close contact screening. The cluster involves a social gathering that took place on March 26 in Bandar Universiti, Seri Iskandar, Perak. 107 people were screened, 13 tested positive.

Selangor

  • Jalan Sulah 16 – a workplace cluster in Klang. Positive cases were reported on April 13 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory in Jalan Lada Sulah 16/11, Shah Alam, Petaling. 549 people were screened, 46 tested positive.
