Cops clamp down on interstate travel until after Raya – Free Malaysia Today

Travel permits will be granted only for work, medical or educational reasons, or emergencies and deaths involving close family members, and to long-distance couples.

PETALING JAYA: With Covid-19 cases exceeding 2,000 for five days in a row now, the police have decided to tighten the conditions for interstate travel.

Deputy inspector-general of police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said permission will only be given to those travelling for work, medical or education purposes, or emergencies and deaths involving close family members, and for long-distance couples.

Those who have obtained permission may only travel from Monday to Thursday, except for emergencies, deaths and long-distance couples.

“Travelling interstate for social purposes such as wedding dinners or any kind of event is prohibited,” he said in a statement today.

The new restrictions will be enforced until after Hari Raya Aidilfitri is over, and stern action will be taken against those who do not comply, he said.

Acryl Sani also said personnel will be mobilised to monitor the crowds at Ramadan bazaars and night markets throughout the country to ensure Covid-19 rules are observed.

“If it is found that SOPs are not complied with, PDRM will advise the local councils to halt business activities in the area.”
