Is the leadership of the Parti Amanah Nasional facing a rebellion at grass root level?

This appears to be the case with reports of a possible mass migration from the Amanah on the cards.

The Islamist Party Amanah Negara faced turmoil after Husam Musa resigned from party posts in September.

Husam was Parti Amanah Negara vice president. His resignation was linked by some news portals to a disagreement with the party leadreship.

The party quashed the rumours saying Husam had initiated an in-depth research to gauge Amanah’s chances of winning in the PAS-controlled state.

It now appears the troubles facing the party have to do with support for ex-PM Mahathir Mohamad or Anwar Ibrahim, the Keadilan leader.

A release published by the Amanah today indicates the extent of the trouble brewing in the party.

The party saw the resignation of an assemblyman who is said to have joined Keadilan.

On Nov 16, the party announced that Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar left the party to join Keadilan.

But the assemblyman later says he did not ‘divorce’ from the party but the party announced he left.

Digging deeper into the situation in Amanah, we were told the party is going through a crisis.

The leaders are seemingly making an attempt to turn the party towards support for Mahathir.

This means the party is breaking from its commitment to support Anwar Ibrahim as the next PM for the PH.

However, the party’s leadership with a message from its vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa, showed support for Anwar.

Mujahid said that Amanah still supported PH’s position that Anwar was to replace Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.

Nevertheless, there are unconfirmed reports that several Amanah branches are ready to turn against the leaders.

They believe some leaders of the party are pushing for a pro-Mahathir agenda.

Some of them wanted to meet with Anwar to explain their frustrations at the party’s leadership, but this is not happening soon.
