We are living in dangerous times with disruptions and disturbances that are hitting entrepreneurs all over the world.

Everywhere you read about governments telling the feel-good story. They tell their people the economy is on a solid path.

However, there are many questions unanswered. What about the real economy?

We all know SMEs are the core of most economies today and this is a global phenomenon.

It is not the few huge corporations that are dominating the businesses across the world that provides most jobs.

In Europe, 23 million small and medium-sized enterprises account for approximately 70% of EU jobs and GDP.

In the Asia-Pacific region, SMEs comprise 98% of enterprises and employ 50% of the workforce.

SMEs account for 90 percent of all businesses in Africa.

Small businesses employed almost 69.7% of the private sector workers in Canada where 98.2% of all businesses have fewer than 100 employees.

This is the real economy and they face the full brunt of the disruptions around the world.

Do they have a place in the fast-changing world or will they have a fair share in the ‘disruptive economy’?

Take the newspapers for example. They are struggling like no one else and many are closing shops.

What’s the plan? What are governments doing to help them engage those disruptions? (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
